Nancy Naigle – Swoon-worthy Romance

Hi friends!

Welcome to the 5th Annual Read-A-Romance Month!

While I read romance all year long, August is the month we celebrate this awesome genre! Come back every day to read all three “Power of Romance” posts. Check out the full calendar of authors here. You can also find links to the last four years’ posts from the boxes in the sidebar, and if you’d like, you can follow RARM on Facebook.

Happy August!

#LoveRomance #ThePowerOfRomance

(A note from Bobbi: I made a mistake in scheduling and Nancy is on a road trip with her family this week. So please leave your comments and she’ll get here when she has the chance. Apologies.)

Romance Works for Me

Ahhhh, the power of romance. It can make you tingle, sizzle, panic, feel alive and young again (if you’re over 50 like me!) and smile until your cheeks hurt. I’m a romantic. Want to know what makes me swoon? The simple things. Opening my door, and the gentle touch of his hand on my arm as I step by. The tilt of his head when he says, “you look beautiful tonight.” Standing outside in the dark, watching for falling stars without a single word. Singing, even off key, a song as he looks in my eyes. ~swoon~

No matter if it’s between the pages of the latest novel on the tippity top of my To-Be-Read pile, on Hallmark, or in real life…it all works for me.

Hugs and romantic wishes,

Nancy

Questions for the Author:

Tell us about a moment when you felt or were aware of the power of romance.

I was ten, and the boy who lived in the next court over came to visit bearing a gift from his vacation to Washington, DC. A silver charm bracelet with bells that tinkled, and a cherry blossom. I remember feeling like the most special girl in the world just because he’d thought of me.

My tummy still whirls when that happens. Doesn’t even matter what the gift is. This week it was a can koozy from a restaurant on a morning I couldn’t make it out to breakfast. “Just thinking of you, babe.” *swoonworthy!

Tell us about an object that has powerful memories for you.

A small John Deere Model B tractor. It was on the top of my wedding cake when I married my late husband. We were married for twenty years. We’d just bought the farm and were married on the property. A wonderful day

Tell us about a powerful book you read this year (or one that’s so powerful you’ve never forgotten it).

Time Is A River by Mary Alice Monroe. It’s my all-time favorite book. It has everything I love. Romance, a little history, some suspense, and I learned some things too.

Tell us about a person who’s had a powerful influence on your life.

The author Jayne Ann Krentz. I was blessed with a very successful career in the corporate world, but when I turned 40 I felt the need to do something that really mattered. I felt the need to make a difference in some way that would touch someone else.  As I searched within for what that might be…what my personal gift was that I’d always been meant to share…I realized that the most powerful gift that I received from someone I didn’t even know was from the stories between the covers of Jayne Ann Krentz books. Her books gave me strength and determination to get myself out of a bad marriage and to make strides toward a healthy life. That’s why I decided to write. I am so thankful to have been able to share the gift of stories that offer hope and strength, or just a moment to slow down and breathe, to other women.

A Romance Writers of America Honor Roll author, her books have been translated in multiple languages and received favorable reviews from major trade journals.

Now happily retired from a career in finance, she devotes her time to writing, antiquing, and horseback riding with friends. A Virginia girl at heart, Nancy now calls North Carolina home.

Thanks for an enjoyable post, Nancy. I enjoyed hearing about the John Deere tractor that topped your wedding cake. We had a groom’s cake at my wedding
(in addition to the traditional wedding cake); it was topped with two Erlenmeyer flasks as my husband and I met in graduate school while we were both studying Chemistry.

I hope you’re enjoying your family road trip!

Who says 50 is old, Nancy? You’re only as old as you want to feel. (Though there are days my body forgets that) 😉

I do love that you decided to do something worthwhile for others so you became a romance author. Thank you!

    • Nancy Naigle

Thank you, Glenda! I’m with you. My body reminds me I’m not as young as I once was, but I’m happy as heck to be 55 and doing the things I love.

  • May

I don’t think 50 is old either. 🙂 I used to think it is… but now I don’t… Still so many things for me to do! 🙂
