Day 49 – The The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig

If you follow me at all, you know I’m a huge Lauren Willig fan.

I’ve read almost everything she’s ever written, and while I’m tempted to recommend her beautiful THE SUMMER COUNTRY, which recently released, I think I’m going to go with the awesome Pink Carnations (because while I’m specifically mentioning Book 1, it’s really for the whole series).

Quirky and fun, with tons of fascinating history and a modern feminist feel, the Carnations are Regency spies with modern smarts and historical skirts, tied together with a contemporary storyline that follows a modern graduate student doing research on spies of the era.

Fun and informative, the series is pure delight.

(I wrote more about if for NPR when the series ended, here.

The Secret History of the Pink Carnation

Everything is coming up carnations in this national bestselling series

Realizing romantic heroes are a thing of the past, graduate student Eloise Kelly is determined to focus on her work. Her first stop: England, to finish her dissertation on the English spies of the Napoleonic Wars, like the Scarlet Pimpernel and the Purple Gentian.

But her greatest conquest is to reveal the most elusive spy of them all, the dashing Pink Carnation. As she does, she discovers something for the history books-a living, breathing hero all her very own…

Love the writer, love the series, love all of the books.
