#BookADay – Year of Yes

January 2

#BOOK-A-DAY – Week 1, Day 2.

This week’s theme? Good Books For the New Year.

Today’s book?

YEAR OF YES: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes.

Inspiring, empowering, fascinating and a great reminder that letting more YES into our lives opens us up to new experiences, new friendships and new opportunities—which could lead to unexpected transformations.

Yes, yes, yes! {love}

The mega-talented creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal and executive producer of How to Get Away With Murder chronicles how saying YES for one year changed her life―and how it can change yours, too.

With three hit shows on television and three children at home, the uber-talented Shonda Rhimes had lots of good reasons to say NO when an unexpected invitation arrived. Hollywood party? No. Speaking engagement? No. Media appearances? No.

And there was the side-benefit of saying No for an introvert like Shonda: nothing new to fear.

Then Shonda’s sister laid down a challenge: just for one year, try to say YES to the unexpected invitations that come your way. Shonda reluctantly agreed―and the result was nothing short of transformative. In Year of Yes, Shonda Rhimes chronicles the powerful impact saying yes had on every aspect of her life―and how we can all change our lives with one little word. Yes.

Highly recommend. A really great read anytime, but if you’re looking for some life-changing inspiration as we turn the calendar to a new year, this is an excellent choice.

Book-A-Day 2019 Week 1:

Day 1  –  Happy New Year, Happy Reading

Happy New Year, Happy Reading

Hi friends!

In September, I started a #Book-A-Day project that barely lasted before life got in the way.

Many of you will know that my Mom died that month, and that the last few months have been spent traveling back and forth from El Paso, cleaning out my childhood home with first my sister and then my husband. (Can I just say here that my husband is The Best?)

But I love the idea of this project, and sharing a more eclectic set of books that I’ve enjoyed.

So I decided to start again,

Happy 2019, friends. I hope your year is full of love, laughter, and a huge stack of good books.

I’m starting my Year of Books with one that seems like a great choice for the New Year, and it’s theme is something I’m trying to be more conscious of this year.

GRATITUDE.

The book is GRATITUDE: A Book of Inspirational Thoughts & Quotes

The description:

This padded and embossed hardcover book is the perfect gift for holidays, birthdays, housewarming, or teachers!
New York Times best-selling author Susan Branch has pulled together a collection of inspirational thoughts and quotes about one of her favorite subjects, Gratitude. Lighthearted and charmingly handwritten text is paired with Susan’s beautiful watercolor illustrations… to warm your heart and home.

I’m a Susan Branch fan. I find her work whimsical and charming, and have loved her since I received one of her books as a wedding gift.

My husband gave me this book for Christmas last year, and I’m still, well, grateful.

This is a good year to sit in intention, focused on gratitude.
