Day 99 – Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan
This book has received so much buzz and so many accolades this year, including the RITA award for best long contemporary romance.
Ryan is a a remarkable writer who tells long, intense stories, yet manages to entwine the sweetness of falling in love, the breathlessness of meeting The One, the shiver of sexual awareness along with the banter, uncertainty and sizzling attraction that one expects from the best romance authors out there.
She really has it all.
I’ve read a few of her titles and they’re all great.
I’m highlighting LONG SHOT because it won the RITA, and because it is truly remarkable. But it’s also really intense. She did an insanely good job of painting a picture of domestic violence, and the powerlessness a women can feel when she’s stuck with a man who thinks it’s okay to treat her like he owns her, and considers that love.
I knew it was a romance. I knew it was going to be okay. I knew she’d wind up with the right guy, who would help her, but that ultimately she’d have to save herself.
But man was that a crazy journey, and boy did my heart pound more than once.
A remarkable read. But if descriptions of graphic violence triggers you in any way, even when it’s triumphantly overcome, you might want to start somewhere else.
A FORBIDDEN LOVE SET IN THE EXPLOSIVE WORLD OF THE NBA…
Think you know what it’s like being a baller’s girl?
My fairy tale is upside down.
A happily never after.
I kissed the prince and he turned into a fraud.
I was a fool, and his love – fool’s gold.
Now there’s a new player in the game, August West.
One of the NBA’s brightest stars.
He wants me. I want him.
But my past, my fraudulent prince, just won’t let me go…
