Eva Leigh – Bold Regency Women and the Men Who Love Them

August 28, 2020 Leave a Comment

Theme today is: recent notable historical releases! Check out the other posts on Vanessa Riley & Sherry Thomas, too!

If you haven’t met Eva Leigh yet, then you have the pleasure of discovering one of the smartest and most appealing writers to hit the scene in the past few years, a new star of historical romance (though she’s been a bit of a star for a while now under the name Zoë Archer).

There are a number of things that make Leigh special. She’s a smooth writer, delicately navigating the tension between empowered women and swoon-worthy romance, creating couples who are perfect for each other but really have to fight for their happily ever after, since her conflicts are so impeccably rendered. Her ability to construct fun and original series has helped put her on the map, too.

Her recent release, the second title in her creative Union Of The Rakes series, is delightful and pitch perfect, pitting a brilliant female entrepreneur trying to save her family’s soap company against an enlightened duke who takes pride in investing in worthy companies, but doesn’t realize he’s being led in that direction by a pretender.

Original, intelligent, sparkling and tender.

WOULD I LIE TO THE DUKE?

When an ambitious entrepreneur pretends to be a lady of means, she catches the eye—and heart—of a duke…

Jessica McGale’s family business desperately needs investors and she’s determined to succeed at any cost. But she knows London’s elite will never look twice at a humble farm girl like herself. Posing as “Lady Whitfield,” however, places her in the orbit of wealthy, powerful people—most notably the Duke of Rotherby. His influence and support could save her company, but Jess never expected the effect he’d have on her.

Society thinks Noel is a notorious, carefree duke who dabbles in investments, but there’s a side to him that only his closest friends see. When he crosses paths with Lady Whitfield at a business bazaar, his world tilts on its axis. She’s brilliant and compelling, and brings him to his knees like no woman has before. Trust is difficult for Noel, but Jess makes him believe anything is possible. . .

As time ticks down on her Cinderella scheme, the thought of achieving her goal at Noel’s expense breaks Jess’s heart. He doesn’t just want her now, he wants her forever. But will her secret end their future before it begins?

Meet the Union of the Rakes—Eva Leigh’s latest Regency romance seriesinspired by the Breakfast Club and other classic 80s films!

Happy reading!

Roselle Lim – The Delights of Magic, Paris & Tea

August 30, 2020

Lim’s writing is graceful and accomplished, allowing her to tell a layered, imaginative, entrancing tale with the lyricism and radiance it deserves.

Jenn McKinlay – Paris Books Are Always A Good Idea

August 30, 2020

This book was a great mix of deeper themes like extended grief and reclaiming one’s true self when life has become all work and no joy, held in tension with elements like reconnecting with old loves and finding them completely different than the hazy version of a decade ago.

Albertalli/Saeed – Say Yes to Yes, No, Maybe So

August 29, 2020

Today’s theme is: Some Awesome YA! Be sure to check out the posts on Sandhya Menon & Stephanie Perkins too! YES, NO, MAYBE SO is a warm, funny, engaging story, but it deals with so many issues in ways that are inspiring and uplifting, even as it reflects realistic disappointments and setbacks, that it is […]
