Lisa Kleypas – Sublime & Swoon-worthy

August 20, 2020 Leave a Comment

Today’s theme is #TBT – Longstanding Queens of Historical Romance! Be sure to check out the posts on Eloisa James & Julia Quinn too!

How do I love thee, Lisa Kleypas? Let me count the ways!

(I used this line for Susan Elizabeth Phillips too, but they’re both faves, so it works…..)

The thing about LK is that there are SO MANY WAYS!

There are her breathtaking Regency and Victorian series… Hathaways, Wallflowers, Bow Street, Ravenels, etc.

There’s the magnificent contemporary Travis series, and the magical (both theme and impact!) of the Friday Harbor series.

I love them all so much, I don’t know what to focus on!

So far, if I HAD to choose, my favorites would be DEVIL IN WINTER (swoony, happy sigh – more below, it’s my focus book) and hmmmm…. maybe RAINSHADOW ROAD? (I do love magic in books!)

But really, everything she writes is lovely and wonderful. She always leaves you feeling like you just want to start over, doesn’t she?!

(And if you haven’t read Lisa Kleypas yet, then dive in as soon as possible. She’s truly swoon-worthy. You don’t have to read the series books in order, but you’ll get a better experience if you do.)

I just discovered she has a number of titles are $4.99 or less so check out her Amazon page!

(And Audible friends, the audio of Chasing Cassandra is currently $6.95 for a few more days.)

THE DEVIL IN WINTER

“I’m Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent. I can’t be celibate. Everyone knows that.”

Desperate to escape her scheming relatives, Evangeline Jenner has sought the help of the most infamous scoundrel in London.

A marriage of convenience is the only solution.

No one would have ever paired the shy, stammering wallflower with the sinfully handsome viscount. It quickly becomes clear, however, that Evie is a woman of hidden strength—and Sebastian desires her more than any woman he’s ever known.

Determined to win her husband’s elusive heart, Evie dares to strike a bargain with the devil: If Sebastian can stay celibate for three months, she will allow him into her bed.

When Evie is threatened by a vengeful enemy from the past, Sebastian vows to do whatever it takes to protect his wife . . . even at the expense of his own life.

Together they will defy their perilous fate, for the sake of all-consuming love.

(Happy, swoony sigh…. sorry, did I say that already….?)

Happy reading!

Roselle Lim – The Delights of Magic, Paris & Tea

August 30, 2020

Lim’s writing is graceful and accomplished, allowing her to tell a layered, imaginative, entrancing tale with the lyricism and radiance it deserves.

Jenn McKinlay – Paris Books Are Always A Good Idea

August 30, 2020

This book was a great mix of deeper themes like extended grief and reclaiming one’s true self when life has become all work and no joy, held in tension with elements like reconnecting with old loves and finding them completely different than the hazy version of a decade ago.

Albertalli/Saeed – Say Yes to Yes, No, Maybe So

August 29, 2020

Today’s theme is: Some Awesome YA! Be sure to check out the posts on Sandhya Menon & Stephanie Perkins too! YES, NO, MAYBE SO is a warm, funny, engaging story, but it deals with so many issues in ways that are inspiring and uplifting, even as it reflects realistic disappointments and setbacks, that it is […]
