Stephanie Perkins – Revisiting Anna and the French Kiss

August 29, 2020 Leave a Comment

Today’s theme is: Some Awesome YA! Be sure to check out the posts on Sandhya Menon & Albertalli/Saeed too!

I love, love, love Stephanie Perkins and her joyful, charming set of lightly connected teen romances that so perfectly reflect the power and truth of young love.

If you balk at the idea of reading books about teenagers falling in love, then you are missing some of the best, funniest, most enchanting romances and, well, books, from the past decade.

In fact, it was ten years ago that ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS first released, followed very soon after by LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR and then ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

They’re all wonderful. WONDERFUL! The dialogue is snappy and smart, the characters are the perfect mix of teen angst, confidence, intelligence and vulnerability (not to mention cool quirkiness) and the plots are swirls of realistic authenticity and drama.

Sheer effervescence and delight.

In case you’re interested, Penguin Random House is releasing a 10 year anniversary edition at the end of October – isn’t it pretty?

The release info.:

Now, this stunning collector’s edition will introduce a whole new generation to this beloved romance classic with a one-of-a-kind, beautifully luxe edition that includes all-new bonus content!

I’ll see if I can give one or two away on the page in October. 🙂

ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS

Anna can’t wait for her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a good job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. So she’s not too thrilled when her father unexpectedly ships her off to boarding school in Paris – until she meets Etienne St. Clair, the perfect boy. The only problem? He’s taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her crush back home. Will a year of romantic near-misses end in the French kiss Anna awaits?

Roselle Lim – The Delights of Magic, Paris & Tea

August 30, 2020

Lim’s writing is graceful and accomplished, allowing her to tell a layered, imaginative, entrancing tale with the lyricism and radiance it deserves.

Jenn McKinlay – Paris Books Are Always A Good Idea

August 30, 2020

This book was a great mix of deeper themes like extended grief and reclaiming one’s true self when life has become all work and no joy, held in tension with elements like reconnecting with old loves and finding them completely different than the hazy version of a decade ago.

Albertalli/Saeed – Say Yes to Yes, No, Maybe So

August 29, 2020

Today’s theme is: Some Awesome YA! Be sure to check out the posts on Sandhya Menon & Stephanie Perkins too! YES, NO, MAYBE SO is a warm, funny, engaging story, but it deals with so many issues in ways that are inspiring and uplifting, even as it reflects realistic disappointments and setbacks, that it is […]
